Eyewitness Testimony and the Truth of Prophecy

2 Peter 1:12-21

1
Chapter 1
12 Therefore I will always intend to remind you of these things, although you know them and are established in the present truth. 13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminder, 14 knowing that the putting off of my tent is swift, just as our Lord Jesus Christ also made clear to me. 15 But I will make every effort to always have you remember these things after my exodus. 16 For we did not make known to you the power and parousia of our Lord Jesus Christ by following cleverly devised myths, but by having become eyewitnesses of that one's majesty. 17 for he received honor and glory from God the Father, when such a voice came to him from the majestic glory: “My beloved Son, this is—in whom I have taken pleasure—” 18 We heard this voice from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 We have the prophetic word more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dry place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture comes about from its own interpretation. 21 For prophecy was not brought at any time by the will of man, but men spoke from God, being carried by the Holy Spirit.
